i'm pretty new to handbrake but am very pleased with its speed and abilities.
one thing i'd love to see is an option to transcode to an uncompressed file.
does this not currently exist? would it be a lot of trouble to implement?
i'm planning on getting an avchd camera and, because of the evolution of
formats, i archive my files as uncompressed. avchd will need transcoding
to edit in final cut so i thought it would be very handy to be able to use
handbrake for this purpose, especially since it's cross platform. that means i
could use a spare, older computer to handle the process in the background.
i looked but didn't see reference to this elsewhere.
thanks,
BabaG
uncompressed as option?

Re: uncompressed as option?
I don't see that being an option any time soon. Perhaps you could use MPEG Streamclip on your spare machine to do the transcode? Since it ties in with the QT framework, it'll convert AVCHD to ProRes or uncompressed assuming you have the appropriate plugins installed.
Re: uncompressed as option?
mpeg streamclip doesn't open the clips.

Well, if uncompressed = lossless, you can specify this in Handbrake. This is generating lossless H.264, which I'm not sure is compatible with your editing solution so I would check that before going hog wild converting.BabaG wrote:i'm pretty new to handbrake but am very pleased with its speed and abilities.

Steps on OS X would be:
1) go to Handbrake -> Preferences -> Advanced and make sure "x264: use CRF instead of CQP for constant quality encodes" is unchecked
2) set quality to 100%
3) done
You can mess around a little bit more, I think appending "qp=0" to your x264 advanced options string would have the same effect.
Re: uncompressed as option?
HandBrake is never going to output uncompressed video. Period.

well the above "hack" works, right?jbrjake wrote:HandBrake is never going to output uncompressed video. Period.
Re: uncompressed as option?
Lossless compression is still compression. I'm taking the user's request at face value, and HB is never going to output raw yuv420.
