put LB subtitles in black bars on 4:3 TV?

Post by mycatsnameisbernie »

I am encoding a letterbox (1.78) video with subtitles, to store on my iPod, which will eventually be watched on a 4x3 TV.

In HB I use the "iPod High-Rez" preset. This produces a 640x368 video with subtitles near the bottom. What I would really like is 640x480, with black bars at top and bottom, and with the subtitles (at least partially) in the bottom black bar.

I tried entering 480 into the "Height" box, but that stretches the video.

I saw in the Anamorphic PAR web page a reference to a "-l 480" CLI option, but that didn't seem to have any effect.

Is there any way to make this happen?

Thanks for the help!

Requested before, but not likely to happen (as requested).

However, if you rip as 4:3 content without autocropping and keep the entire image, you might get lucky and have the burned-in subtitles appear in the black area (but this will be hit or miss).

Don't keep the entire image, just set the bottom crop to zero. The others won't buy you any real estate for your subtitles.
