[Rejected] Better AAC Encoder: QAAC

Post by jacop89 » Wed Mar 29, 2017 10:26 am

Please describe what you would like to see added to HandBrake:
QAAC Encoder for better audio quality:
https://github.com/nu774/qaac

Why would you like to see this added:
Because the current Handbrake AAC Encoder is not so good (Bye AAC FDK)!

What version of HandBrake are you currently running:
Latest Nightly Build d293148

What operating system and version and you currently running (e.g. OSX 10.11, Windows 7, Ubuntu 14):
Windows 10 64 bit!

It is just a front-end that requires Apple / QuickTime support.
Doubtful it would find its way into Handbrake.

There was a patch for QAAC years ago,

Unfortunately QAAC is incompatible with our license so it's not a feature we can add I'm afraid.

You have in mind some new AAC encoder that you can add to the program to improve the quality of audio coding?

There is no better AAC encoder available to us to use.

libav is currently our only feasible option. If they ever decide to improve it, we'll pick up said improvements but thus far they've not shown much interest in it.
