AMDs Advanced Media Framework

Post by the_gas »

Please describe what you would like to see added to HandBrake:

Please can you add support for AMDs AMF? (http://gpuopen.com/gaming-product/advan ... framework/)

Why would you like to see this added:

ASAP!

What version of HandBrake are you currently running:

The latest nightly build.

What operating system and version and you currently running (e.g. OSX 10.11, Windows 7, Ubuntu 14):

Windows 10 64 Bit

Thanks.

Questions I would have are:

Is it licensed under GPL2?
Who would implement and maintain it if it has a compatible license?
Does it really do what the marketing hype says?

This is not news. We've had AMD VCE patches for close to a year. We've had a MIT shim over it so license I believe is a non issue.

See my comments regarding VCE and NVENC viewtopic.php?f=26&t=34756#p163817

Thanks.

I don't understand, what is the reason for AMD VCE support being held back?

Put simply, the pathces are not ready for submission and I don't think the people developing it are activly working on it at the moment.
It's a two part patch. One for the libav project and one for HandBrake. HandBrake relies on the patch for libav which has not been accpeted by them yet.

The video doesn't actually show you anything useful. It's just a marketing promo from AMD.

Either way, it's missed the cut off for 1.0 so it'll be 1.1 at the ealiest before we release it.
