Please describe what you would like to see added to HandBrake:
Hi,
I'd like to convert VR 3D side-by-side vid's to/from VR 3D top-to-bottom vid's, with possible export filters for Oculus/Samsung VR / Google cardboard.
with more and more VR's available sometimes sources are limited to one format and not the other; leaving behind people with different hardware.
I guess this would take some longer development, but I think there is gap for this feature (unless I'm wrong).

Besides, "You should also check the http://handbrake.fr/ideas.php page." - the page is missing, as of today!

Re: 3D VR conversion 3DLR <> 3DTB
Yeah that feature be nice for the future.
But it requires a lot of work.
I guess, the Devs will/should wait for H.264 MVC decode in the libav upstream.
They started/pushed the development for it a lot this year.

Further details about the refactoring from last year I found:
https://blogs.gentoo.org/lu_zero/2014/0 ... ad-to-mvc/
I'm not sure though whether there is any encoding solution for MVC, yet.
But MVC is definitely what you want: H.264 MVC allows encoding several video streams into one.
For example from different cameras, or in your case left and right view for 3D movies.
(360°movies might profit from it as well, preventing distortion/the need to save it all anamorph)
Until it's in-place you could script yourself a workaround using avisynth
Maybe someone else has a better idea for that. Or there is even a tool out there, I haven't looked it up.

Re: 3D VR conversion 3DLR <> 3DTB
maybe this might help you too:
https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/FilteringGuide
(ffmpeg has some in-built tools for creating side-by-side top-bottom videos from two or more sources, but I'm not sure whether or how you can select areas from one video for that)
Are you sure VR doesn't support side-by-side?
I mean for cardboards it would be practically stupid to use top-bottom instead of side-by-side
edit:
atleast oculus vr (the cinema thing) seems to support it:
you just need to create some meta file in the same folder

Re: 3D VR conversion 3DLR <> 3DTB
I don't believe any of the current developers have any real interest in 3D so unfortunately, it's a "Patches Welcome" kind of deal.
If anyone is interested and has the know-how to produce a patch, feel free to get in touch.

Is there any update on this? Would highly appreciate the MVC feature.
