Re: Add ass file support to handbreak
Handbrake DOES support ASS/SSA subtitles - but they have to be included in the source. Only SRT subtitles are supported as "add in a subtitle file", but those are converted to ASS/SSA for rendering.
If all the components (such as necessary fonts) are included in an MKV file, handbrake will render them just fine.

And how ti include all components ??

Re: Add ass file support to handbreak
Did you also include the font files used? When I've encountered ASS subtitled files, they have either had NO style information, or they include multiple true-type font files to match what the subtitle author needed for the stylization.
It's been my understanding that it is things like that which make it difficult to simply select the ASS/SSA file as an external file. As an example, the subtitle "package" for one series included 13 TTF files as attachments in the MKV, as well as the TEXT/ASS file. Most are only used for the karaoke stylization of the opening/closing sequences. If they aren't present, that stylization isn't available.

Re: Add ass file support to handbreak
While I can't tell you how, a search for "how to attach subtitles with fonts to mkv" on Google.com comes up with a LOT of tutorials.
Re: Add ass file support to handbreak
i try what you say but it does not work it keeps removing the opaque box

Re: Add ass file support to handbreak
Is there a reason you need to "burn in" the subtitles? I suspect what you're saying is that you're trying to burn in an ASS subtitle that has "Opaque Box" subtitles set. I'm familiar with the problem that not all ASS rendering libraries will support all ASS tags (for example, many won't do fades or slants properly). I do know Handbrake's "burn in" process won't properly handle the \fad tag (though you can get around this by using the transforming \t tag on a color slide with alpha). Have you tried not burning in the ASS tag. As long as you don't burn it in, Handbrake will easily port all attached subtitles AND attached fonts from the original MKV file to your output file provided it is also MKV.

Re: Add ass file support to handbreak
So your added subtitle track has to put an opaque block over the existing, burned-in subtitle?
