[Accepted] Make auto shutdown feature more fool proof (for fools like me)

Post by mod16 »

From time to time I use the very handy feature of lettings HB shut down the system after finishing encoding. This works fine.

BUT: I pretty much always forget to "diffuse" it afterwards and the system suddenly shuts down after finishing i.e. a test encoding.

This maybe OS depended - most of the time I use Linux, but I also had that "problem" on Windows.

My suggestion would be something like a "do this only once", "do this always" or "remember" checkbox or option in the settings. Or maybe something else...

Another approach would be to add some kind of virtual job to the queue, which represents the thing HN will do after finishing the jobs listed above. This way it should be really hard to miss.

There is really no reason for a shutdown feature, jmo.

I disagree :)

Even sleeping a machine still uses power, even if very small amount.

I also don't disagree with the usability issue, so something to think about.

I can't mind if this is in the nightly or 0.10 but I did add a (iirc, 60 second) countdown with cancel button when the post encode action triggers. Although that doesn't help if your not at the machine when that happens.
