Encoding is much faster now. Thank you!
@mduell: I wanted to make sure that it is really a bug and not a missing feature before creating a bug report with activity log.

We require activity logs for all support requests because users almost always don't supply enough information for us to help them. And we don't like the 20 questions game.

I'm going to +1 VP9 and WebM
WebM is basically MKV anyway, so it shouldn't be too hard to implement.
as for VP9, I realize it's not very usable just yet, so take your time.

I'm using VP8 and so far have been happy with it. I've compared it with x264 on several tests and prefer the results with the VP8 encoder for the same size file. It does take longer to encode however, but I don't sit around and watch it so that doesn't bother me. Looking forward to seeing VP9 so I can do some comparison testing. I did try the x265 encoder and it IMHO was completely unusable - extremely slow and the resulting video had severe audio sync issues.

Yikes. It still takes that long? Why hasn't google or anyone done anything to make a faster encoder?

Well, more importantly, they haven't released any new encoder in quite a while. The git master is probably quite a bit faster than their last release (though not sure how much)…
