Estimated File Size
I am encoding h.264 mp4 and trying to maximize quality and stay under 4 GB on all content especially HD content in order to be able to play the encoded file on XBox 360 and AppleTV. It would be really handy to have an output file size in the "video" tab.
Re: Estimated File Size
Use a bitrate calculator, plenty exist.
HB doesn't want to be in the target filesize game.

I don't know about the XBox, but for the AppleTV you would need to use large file size.

Target filesize was scrapped ages ago, and if the developers are to be believed (Of which I have no doubt), it ain't coming back!

Okay, I'm new to handbrake and this is the first version I've used so I was unaware it used to be an option. The bitrate calculator may work though. Does this mean I need to use the two pass encoding to get best results?

Re: Estimated File Size
Yes, when doing average bitrate encoding, 2 pass is recommended for best results.
Re: Estimated File Size
You're welcome to use my bitrate calculator for Handbrake. It's a WIP that has been sitting on the shelf for a while, but it'll get you close.
