Downsizing too much is much less likely to fill up a hard drive and possibly overwrite important data. There are also those that would code 4k and complain about speed...

Well, get over it. Your suggestion has been rejected by the developers and that's that.

They don't have time to waste justifying the decision to you.

That means that the developer thought about it, figured it wouldn't be too difficult to implement, but thought that the problems caused would outweigh any benefits.
