increasingly weird problem.......

I don't know if this is the right place to post this problem but......
OK I encode some tv shows from one of my dvds, it works perfectly, I open the encoded file it play fine in quicktime so I wait till all the episodes are encoded to tag them all at once.
Well when they are all done I verify they all work. But now the files I have all ready verified working now won't open in quicktime. Is my hard drive dying or is it something else?
The files work one day, i do nothing to them, a day or even hours later they no longer work...... any ideas why?
It's not really a hardbrake problem so I really didn't think an activity log would help..... but I will post one if anyone thinks it will help.......

yeah tried in vlc.....
I just wonder what could cause the files to corrupt...... I'm doing nothing other than writing to the hard drive for other encodes....

If I tag the files they don't corrupt.....

ok a second update......
I got a bright new 24" imac new build of handbrake and new external hard drive........ AND IT"S STILL DOING IT!!!!!!
