Just a short question about dvd encoding,
I wasn't really able to find a good answer for on the internet
What looks better/preserves more quality: Interlaced or progressive?
Or is that the wrong question, because it depends on the player itself?
The idea behind it is: as far as I know interlaced needs less space for encoding. But does it have more or less image quality than an encoded movie in progressive at the same bitrate?
I want to achieve the best quality settings for a dvd, rather than player compatibility.
A second question is: does the audio codec matter and how much does it's bitrate impact the image quality?
DVD encoding quality
Re: DVD encoding quality
Then keep the DVD rip (ISO or concatenated VOBs or MKV), rather than encoding with HB.Djfe wrote:I want to achieve the best quality settings for a dvd, rather than player compatibility.
Re: DVD encoding quality
No that was not what I meant, I should have been more precise.
Let's say I recorded a movie/show on TV: 720p H.264 Transporstream
And now I want to create a DVD from it, that I can play on DVD players.
I know the best method if it's only about transporting the movie would be storing the H.264 encoded file on a data DVD, but then I could also use an USB stick instead.
I just want to know whether interlaced or progressive preserves more quality. (When the limit is 4.7GB)

Beyond the scope of the HB forum. Head over to a DVD authoring forum.Djfe wrote:No that was not what I meant, I should have been more precise.

DVDs only support interlaced content. If the source is progressive they simulate progressive by applying telecine (https://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/Telecine).Djfe wrote:No that was not what I meant, I should have been more precise.

So the question is not relevant in the context of producing a DVD.
