Handbrake Crashes but then Solved

Post by JonJ »

I live in the Los Angeles area. About 6 - 8 months ago it really started getting unusually hot.

That's when Handbrake frequently kept crashing on me. Blue Screen of Death like crashing.

Then as the heatwave continued and kept getting worse my PC would occasionally crash even when I ran other programs I was not a happy camper thinking I might have a hard drive going bad.

I forget exactly how I came to reset my PC BIOS but after I returned to the stock 3.2GHz and re-optimized my overclock to just 3.5GHz I found that HandBrake stopped crashing. It's been fine ever since. It's been about two months now and all is well.

I hope this helps some of you.

Forgot to mention that I had originally overclocked my PC to 4.5GHz when this crashing was occurring.

Inadequate cooling is a common source of crashing, overclocked or not.

Call me old fashioned, but I will never over clock an encoding machine.

Yes, but some machines come from the factory "overclocked"... at least relative to the cooling they built into them! :)

It's a pity it was solved and discovered it was overclocking.

Personally I would have put it down to the weather.

Am sure that computers were probably crashing randomly throughout the state given the hot weather!

I mean, there were crazy forest fires and Smokey Bear was telling us that only we could prevent wildfires but he was wrong!
