Advanced Tab Settings

Post by elchonkyfuego »

So I am sure this has been already covered before so sorry in advance for asking but... I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to point me in the right direction when it comes to any changes I should make on the advanced tab from the default high profile. I am not encoding for any particular devices although in the future I might get a box like a pch or boxee. I am not very concerned about encoding time. One question I did have in particular was if I am making a flac trac from a dts-hd or dolby true hd. Do I want to change the bitrate on the flac track from the default 160 to anything else. I know I am downgrading from a higher bit to 16. This is an example of what Ive been doing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If any other info is needed please let me know.

I thought FLAC didn't use bitrates? If you are setting it to 160, it appears to be ignoring it, or that setting is showing somewhere else in the log.

Bitrates are indeed ignored for FLAC.

Thanks again. So does anyone think I should I change any of the settings I am using like the Motion Estimation Range to something higher like 32 or anything else for that matter.

See the x264 presets thread if you want slower, more efficient (quality/bit) settings.

The gains are relatively small starting from the High Profile preset; encoding gets slower a lot faster than it gets more efficient.
