Handbrake for Android

Sorry for asking a possibly silly question. As Handbrake supports the arm based platform M1 on Apple devices, are there any plans to port Handbrake to android? Even the masses do not have Apple M1 machines, it would make sense to port it to Qualcom soc's first as there are probably more smartphones out then computers.

Thanks for your feedback. Have a nice weekend.

Tom

Nope, there are no plans. While it's easy enough to compile the engine for ARM platforms (potentially with only minor modifications) i'd require building an entirely new UI. Nothing that, HandBrake can run on Windows ARM devices powered by Qualcomm 8cx.

That said, in a tablet environment, your heavily thermally constrained so running sustained loads isn't a good idea. You'd effectively want to remove all the functionality except hardware encode/decode meaning that it's no longer HandBrake and just a wrapper around the QC encode engine. Anyone can wrap a UI around that if they havn't done already.

HandBrake isn't a business, it's a hobby. So it doesn't matter if we have 1 user or 1 million users at the end of the day. If folks find it useful, that's great. If they don't, plenty of different tools and apps around that can be good alternatives.

Ultimately, being a hobby, it needs developer interest (and in this case, appropriate hardware as well) and neither of this conditions are met.

It's a shame, as it would be a great tool for handheld devices, too!
Have you ever tried to render video on ARM?
