files are always an hour long

Post by Nervcentre »

If I try to encode a disc from my Toshiba DVD recorder, no matter how long chapters are on the disc handbrake records them in hour long blocks (example, if the firs 5 chapters on the dvd are 10 minutes each, Handbrake will record as one hour long chapter). Is there a setting on the DVD recorder I should look at or my dvd drive?

Problerm always happens

You are using a VERY old version, you should upgrade.

Output from DVD recorders do not follow DVD authoring standards very closely. It is possible they were recorded in one hour chunks, and menu entries were used to "divide" them.

It is possible that a dedicated ripper like MakeMKV could extract the individual "chapters", but you may end up having to have handbrake encode the chunks by start/stop time.
