0.9.4 on Ubuntu 10.04, Fedora 13 or GTK > 2.19 - README
HandBrake 0.9.4 will not work on Ubuntu 10.04, Fedora 13 beta or any setup where gnome 2.19 or greator is run.
In order to use HandBrake, you'll either need to download and compile the latest source code from the SVN, or run a nightly build

For info:
Running nightly build didn't work for me on 10.04. Upon trying to install the deb, I got a "Bad dependency on libwebkit" which is weird cause it's on my machine.
I successfully compiled the latest on 10.04 and it works fine.
Thanks for the great work

Package is still borked. libwebkit version should be 1.0-2, not 1.0.2.

Yea I am getting the same dependency error, with libwebkit-1.0.2 which should be libwebkit-1.0-2

This is yesterday's nightly you're trying to install (the new nightly may not have been built yet).vhenninot wrote:Hello,

Will an official 0.9.4 rpm be released for Fedora 13 now that it has been released?

no - Use a nightly. (See forum announcements)
Re: 0.9.4 on Ubuntu 10.04, Fedora 13 or Gnome > 2.19 - READM
Ok...here we go with another workaround for Linux. I have actually gotten the current version 0.9.4 to work on Lucid Linx. I am using the 64 bit version of Lucid with a brand new installation of Handbrake. What did happen is that everytime I ran Handbrake, it would crash at the very end of the session like at 99%. So I and eventually have come up with a workaround.
Here is the workaround: Make an ISO of the DVD (I use Brasero) and then use Handbrake to rip the movie from the ISO. Works everytime and I have now been doing this process for a couple of days (since Thursday 17th of June 2010). Works like a charm.
If this workaround craps out, I will post that so everyone has a headsup for what to expect.
Have fun!

I know the 0.9.4 release doesn't work with the new Gnome interface in Ubuntu Lucid 10.04.
Does it have any issues with Kubuntu Lucid?

It's not gnome that's the problem. It's libgtk. You can't run the gtk ui of handbrake without libgtk, so yes, it would also fail on kubuntu.
Re: 0.9.4 on Ubuntu 10.04, Fedora 13 or Gnome > 2.19 - READM
I was browsing distrowatch and it seems that the topic title should be "libgtk > 2.19", not "Gnome > 2.19" (apparently, Ubuntu 7.10 shipped with libgnome 2.20 in 2007).JohnAStebbins wrote:It's not gnome that's the problem. I installed Handbrake from PPA about a week ago to a laptop that had been running Ubuntu 9.04 and HB without issues. The laptop is now running 10.04. I installed libdvdread4. Handbrake would read the DVD, pick a title, then the "Picture", "Video", and "Audio" tabs would remain blank. I looked at the log, and it appeared there were problems with libdvd. So I tried these directions from Ubuntu Community Docs
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Restr ... layingDVDs
From the Activity Window, it appears HB is now using an older version of libdvd, but I'm not sure. I thought it said libdvdread4 before, now it says 2. Anyway, HB acting the same as before - reads tracks, picks a title, but the Pic, Vid, and Audio windows remain blank. A new development - now HB crashes with some DVD's. It begins to read the DVD, then just disappears.
I uninstalled Handbrake, and will try a current nightly build. It's a hassle for me cause we're on dialup so I gotta go into town. Just wondering if anyone else is having similar problems?

We really, need to see activity logs in order to help. There are literally hundreds of possibilities for the cause of your problem. And you description doesn't even begin to cover what we can get at a glance from the activity log.Telkwa wrote:I installed Handbrake from PPA about a week ago to a laptop that had been running Ubuntu 9.04 and HB without issues. As rodeo points out, your problem is very likely unrelated to this thread. Please open a new thread.
