QSV encoding: error or cancellations detected

Hi everybody,


Using H264 QSV I repeatedly get following error "Queue Finished with 1 errors or cancellations detected". This happens for any of all the MKV-files I have. The result is that only a (small) part of the original file gets converted.

I have tried updating the intel graphics drivers but not really getting anywhere, unfortunately.
My CPU is an I74970k if that is relevant .

Are there anyone who may be able to trace the error? If so I will be very grateful

What are the steps to reproduce this problem:
Simply load an MKV-file and use QSV as encoder

What version of HandBrake you are running:
Nightly build: 20170305220226....

What operating system and version and you running (e.g. OSX 10.11, Windows 7, Ubuntu 14):

Looking through the code I can see following error:

I have no idea what it means though.

I just started to use QSV today. CPU 4790K, MB Asus Z-87 Pro. When QSV is selected, the encode fails 1/4 to 1/3 of the way through.

Hi Mikkel,

error code -17 (MFX_ERR_DEVICE_FAILED) means a device operation failure which occurs during initialisation of the decoder.

solution:
- i assume, your monitor is connected to your nvida gpu. connect your intel gpu to your monitor in addition to see if it makes any difference
- install one of the newest drivers (v20.19.15.4568 or v20.19.15.4624 beta)
- the best way to verify if qsv is (generally) working, is running mediasdk system analyzer. This tool is from intel and comes with the
media sdk 2016 R2 (newest version) and can be downloaded from intel. It shows the supported api version of your hardware (should be marked
supported on hw up to 1.19) and more importantly the state of your intel gpu, which should be "active" and not "0" or sth else.

If you dont want to have both gpus connected to your monitor, you can take a look at your
motherboards bios. In my case (z87 board) theres is an option called "multi monitor support" which
initializes both gpus and lets them stay active, even if only one gpu is connected to the monitor.
As a result you can benefit from qucksync even though your dgpu is no connected to the monitor

- i assume, your monitor is connected to your nvida gpu. connect your intel gpu to your monitor in addition to see if it makes any difference
- install one of the newest drivers (v20.19.15.4568 or v20.19.15.4624 beta)
- the best way to verify if qsv is (generally) working, is running mediasdk system analyzer. This tool is from intel and comes with the
media sdk 2016 R2 (newest version) and can be downloaded from intel. It shows the supported api version of your hardware (should be marked
supported on hw up to 1.19) and more importantly the state of your intel gpu, which should be "active" and not "0" or sth else.

I have a feeling it may be related to very high frame rates. I managed to convert a bluray where the framerate was generally < 200 fps but with this sample the frame rate is extremely high (> 400 fps).
