Handbrake Encodes Everything with L4 Profile

Post by Snaptrap »

Please describe the problem in as much detail as possible: I created a user profile using the advanced tab, but no matter which film I encode, the auto profile selection is always the same. This was not a problem with previous versions. I've been told that the level won't affect the encoding, but it may affect the playback if the encoder doesn't meet the profile requirements. Hopefully I can correct this without re-encoding.

What are the steps to reproduce this problem: Using the config when first using Handbrake, I created a user preset by going through each tab from left to right. Picture, filters, video, audio, etc. When I reach advanced, the default profile of L4 is already added to the x264 Enconder Options. It doesn't change even though the H264 Profile and Level are set to auto. If I uncheck and recheck "Use Advanced Tab Instead", the x264 Encoder Options are cleared.

What version of HandBrake you are running: 0.10.2.7286

What operating system and version and you running (e.g. OSX 10.11, Windows 7, Ubuntu 14): Windows 7 x64 (w/ latest updates)

Please include the scan or encode log: This is the log of the last movie I encoded. I've done many movies with the current version of Handbrake.

I was able to correct the levels of the affected files using the H264 Level Editor and the H264 Online Calculator. The calculator seems accurate based on comparisons with unaffected files.

You are requesting 1920x1080 resolution at nominal 24fps. The minimum encoder level for that resolution/frame rate is 4.0.

Are you trying to increase the level, or reduce it?
