Random, not reproduceable bug (2 pass encoding instead of crf)

Post by linuxuser »

Since a while it happens from time to time, that a 2 pass encoding is started, instead of a crf-encoding. This is more an info, than a bug report. But I do something special. I start Handbrake more than once and don't use a queue. I do this, because often I have to do finetuning and have to start with different parameters again. Especially i don't want to enter the tags again, which I have, if I use a queue. I started 8 handbrake-instances and everything worked fine, but sometimes I see "pass ..." while crf is defined. This happened now with 2 handbrake instances.

My system
Ubuntu 14.04
handbrake-gtk 6559svnppa1~trusty1

I noticed this a few weeks ago too, so the problem should exist since a while. I have to restart the pc, to get rid of it.

ACTIVITY LOG

Without it, we have absolutely no idea what settings you used or what the characteristics of the source video were and can therefore offer no help whatsoever.

The problem appeared again with only 1 handbrake window open. The filename has been changed / removed.

Re: Random, not reproduceable bug (2 pass encoding instead of crf)

Post by JohnAStebbins »

The first pass is searching for subtitles. You have "Foreign audio search" enabled. It will only do this when your source has subtitles to search, so that is why it does not happen all the time.

Thanks, but I wonder now, while I don't see this gain. I think it is better discussed in this thread, because it is no bug obviously: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=31218&e=1&view=unread#unread
