[Invalid][SVN 2943] Blocky playback on TV

Post by downinitjr »

Not sure in what version this started happening but it is occurring in the latest as of now svn 2943. Using the exact same preset, files played back on my Tv come out very blocky, black scenes have large stripes through them, etc. When I revert back to svn 2921 the same preset produces a perfectly playable/quality file. Both files when played back from quicktime appear normal by the way. Anyone know whats happening here?

Re: [SVN 2943] Blocky playback on TV

Post by Rodeo »

This is actually an AppleTV bug rather than a HandBrake/x264 bug. Basically, the AppleTV doesn't support weighted p-frame prediction.

You will need to re-encode using weightp=0 in your x264 settings. The AppleTV preset will be updated accordingly before 0.9.4 is released.
