[Resolved] [SVN 2592] Possible Bug

Post by Hello »

Not sure if this is a bug or not, but I've been trying out the closed captions in the new snapshot and I've run across a problem. The closed captions work perfectly, but they are located very low in the video, so low, that they are cut off almost completely, just the tops of the words are visible. I'm not sure if anyone else has had this problem, but here's an activity log for a test of The Lord of the Rings the Fellowship of the Ring DVD I did. It's probably a problem with how I set up the video, but I guess it could be a bug.

Rip done!
HandBrake has exited.

Other information:
Other programs running: iTunes
Version of HandBrake: SVN 2592 Build 2009062101 (Windows Version)
Running: Windows Vista Service Pack 1

I was using the iPod Legacy Preset at CQ 62.75% and used custom anamorphic 640x352 actual and a display width of 853. I used closed captions not burned in and not forced.
If anyone wants to download the video to see what it looks like, here's the link: http://rapidshare.com/files/250880220/t ... 4.m4v.html
BTW - Both iTunes and QuickTime cut off the subtitles and VLC doesn't seem to even know how to display them.

Anyway, great job on HandBrake, and keep up the great work. The new custom anamorphic mode is especially impressive and the new soft subtitles feature seems to be coming along extremely well. Thanks for all your hard work.

Must be a problem with your playback environment.

Your sample file is fine - I can see the Closed Captions in QuickTime and VLC, not cut off. Also, since CC is text (not bitmap) and passed through as such, it can't be "cut off" anyway.

Hmmmm. Well I think I have the most up to date versions of iTunes (8.2.0) and QuickTime (7.6.2), downloaded from Apple, and my VLC version is 0.9.9. I'm still having the same problem in QuickTime and iTunes currently. I'll check to make sure I have the current versions though.

I use VLC 1.0.0-rc4. It does seem that VLC 0.9.9 won't see the subtitles in your sample file.

You're right. Here's a picture of what the video looks like in QuickTime and what it looks like in VLC 1.0.0-rc4
QuickTime:

VLC:

So the problem is definitely not with HandBrake, sorry about the trouble. I don't know why the subtitles are being displayed like that in QuickTime and iTunes, though.

Looks like there may be a bug in QuickTime for Windows, as I don't have this problem on my Mac.

Yeah, there's definitely a problem with QuickTime. Thanks for the help!
