[Fixed] Missing frames at beginning, HB x264 file as input

Post by Elan »

Hi,

I use HB to convert MPEG2-TS files into x264. I'm using these settings to keep the maximum quality before I delete the original file :

As the output file is to watch on my TV using a Mac Mini, it's incompatible with my iPod touch. So I re-encode the output MP4 file using theses settings :

My issue is when I use b-frames in the first encode, there is about 103 frames missing at the beginning of the second encode. In this test, the first frame of the second file is the 104th of the first. There is always at 4-5sec lost at the beginning when I use these settings.

I try with HB 0.9.3 official release and there is no issue, no missing frames at the beginning of the video. I can provide log for these encodes using 0.9.3 if needed.

Thank you,

Eric

[ EDIT : ]
Sorry, I didn't saw this thread before posting : Missing first few seconds of a video on a re-encode

That's the same issue so as I learn from jbrjake reply I check the reader: first SCC for my second encode.

Code: Select all

[13:30:22] reader: first SCR 388889
So 388889 / 90000 is about 4.3 secondes left. I take the output file from the first encode and I re-encode it using the same settings as the second encode but this time I use HB 0.9.3 Official release to see the first SCR. It's 6010, here the log :

I might be wrong but I think the issue is related to the r2350 that change the MPEG timebase to 90KHz... Why not using the first pts value as it's the same on the missing frames and 0.9.3 encode ?

Code: Select all

[02:35:32] sync: first pts is 6010
[ EDIT 02: ]
Not related to r2350. I try r2349 today and the issue is still there so nothing to do with the move to 90KHz timebase.

Re: [EDIT]Missing frames at the beginning, HB x264 file as input

Post by van »

Thanks for reporting this. The problem was due to broken input file chapter support. HB read the chapters in the input mp4 file then tried to seek to the start of the first chapter but the seek code computed an incorrect offset. The problem should be fixed by r2411.

Thank you,

I try r2411 & r2412 and everything is working perfectly now.

Handbrake is an awesome app and as I'm using SVN versions and reading irc logs for the last 2 years I just want to tell to all Devs : Wow, you did a wonderful job guys, HB is better day after day!

@s55 : I did that on a daily basis when there is nothing to do on the job. Sometimes it's really funny to read and that's helping me with my english as I'm not a native speaker. I also know where the project goes, not posting bugs you already know...

@dynaflash : I think I go on irc maybe 3-4 times not more. Yes I said stupid things because I didn't know how things works at the beginning.

This is the reason, in fact, for the push to 64 bit computing. :P

I don't think that it was for the push to 64 bit computing.
