clicking on "encode video" results in nothing..bet

Post by havsumhope »

i'm having the same issue. i've tried multiple dvds. i'm using the beta version. I've read the guides/ faqs posted - spent about 45 minutes trying to figure it out. now I'm going to post and hopefully someone will have an answer.

1. i start handbrake
2. dvd43 is already running
3. dvd face shows "green" on dvd43 and all is well there
4. i search for dvd, get the black prompt box, and it reads the dvd.
5. I select the movie chapter i want to encode
6. I enter the settings as is outlined in the handbrake for windows guide.
7. i click on encode video
8. a popup box says something to the effect that the video will now be encoded.
9. the black prompt dialogue box appears again in the window, but only for a second or two and then closes and then nothing.
10. repeating 7 always results in 8 and 9.

For some reason, when I click on the encode video button, a process starts and ends quickly and nothing further happens.

Could I be missing a codec? would installing k-lite or some other codec pack help since it stops at the encoding part?

i uninstalled windows live one care as that was causing other issues. I turned off avg anti-virus while I'm encoding.

can anyone offer any insight as to what might resolve this issue?

it it helps any, i've tried using transfermydvd, dvdtopod, and cucusoft ipod video converter and jodix free ipod video converter with no success on any of them.

DVD43 does not remove any modern copy protections.

AnyDVD does the best job as far as I know. If that doesn't work its either a mastering issue or some unknown protection in which case Handbrake will not be able to help you.

Can you copy paste the information out the DVD Information tab, after clicking the Read DVD.

additional information..

ok. the solution..
after another hour or so.. downloading the anydvd may or may not have helped. i did get some copyright errors with dvd43 and transfermydvd and the movie i just got to work with handbrake.

basically, it seems that there was a step I was leaving out of the above. i was trying to type in the name of the dvd in the "dvd title" open text box. basically, if I just left that with a number that was autopopulated after the "read dvd" step, and just followed the rest of the guide, it worked!

it seems like the solution was to not try and over-type or re-type the dvd title in the dvd title box. (for example, when trying to read "Zoom", the number 2 would autopopulate. i was overtyping and erasing "2" and typing in "zoom" instead, thinking that would title the dvd for playback on the ipod)

basically, if i didn't touch the dvd title field, it worked.

hopefully, that helps others who i read on this forum who were having similar issues when trying to encode.

I am getting similar problem. Encoding works fine most of the fine. But occasionally I click start encoding and within 1 or 2 seconds it says completed and I have a very small 4K file.

Sorry about posting here but I don't seem to have the ability to create a new topic.(ok...I figured it out later)...well...here it is...if anyone wants to try to answer it.

The iso file was created with anydvd plays ok with vlc.

HB isn't very good with disks or disk images, use something like MakeMKV to rip a video file for HB to work from.

ok..I used makemkv and made a folder. I used that folder with handbrake and it worked.

I have a question. At least 95% of the time handbrake works fine just by using the iso file. Is the quality of the finished product (mp4) any different if I was to use makemkv if I did have the option of using handbrake just with the iso or the makemkv folder?

No there's no difference in the quality.

And I'm not suggesting a MakeMKV folder rip, I'm suggesting a MakeMKV video file rip.
