Access violation but only one 1 of the 4 titles

Post by Meocene »

Don't know what's going wrong here.
This only happens with the third title - titles 1, 2 and 4 encode just fine...?

Code: Select all

Don't put H.264 in AVI, that's insane.
Not sure if that's an issue here, but even if you get it to work you won't be able to play it back.

No, it doesn't work just fine, unless you wrote a patch to implement packed b-frames in our AVI muxer and forgot to share it.

Well I don't wish to sound condescending but it does work and these are the settings I use:

Code: Select all

 -f avi -w 1024 -e x264 -b 2100 -2 -T -a 1 -E ac3 -B 160 -R 0 -6 dpl2 -D 1 -x ref=4:mixed-refs=1:bframes=6:weightb=1:direct=auto:b-pyramid=1:me=umh:subq=9:analyse=all:8x8dct=1:trellis=1:no-fast-pskip=1:psy-rd=1,1:deblock=-2,-1:merange=32 -v
Played through the magic of FFDShow I end up with an image noticeable better than the original DVD. Good ol' warpsharp.

Image
Image

File size for a 45 minutes show is typically ~750Mb.

I'd like to know if I'm wasting my time using avi - I was just looking for maximum compatibility across multiply OS's and this set up has proved the most flexible.
These files play fine in VLC, Boxee, WMP11+FFDShow. Should I be using MP4 or MKV?
Hopefully they'll work find in XBMC on my old XBox aswell - haven't gotten round to modding it yet though.

The other thing i don't understand is why when i encode and use mkv the quality is clearly lower. Surely the container wouldn't have an affect on the output?

Hi,

I'm using the cygwin CLI version of HandBrake, and I get a similar error encoding the 3rd title on a copied DVD. The suspicious thing about the track is that the audio is reported as:

" + 1, English (AC3) (5.1 ch), 12000Hz, 8000bps"

(as was the original poster's audio) rather than the 40kHz / 384kbps of all the other episode tracks are. mencoder correctly deals with the track, using roughly the same options, so I assume it's something to do with the IFO or VOB reading code.

Code: Select all
