logs found many thanks
do you require whole text?
The crucial part should be:

"[19:06:47] dvdnav cur pgcn err: Bad VM state.
libdvdnav: DVD disk reports itself with Region mask 0x00400000. Regions: 1 2 3 4 5 6 8
libdvdread: Invalid IFO for title 2 (VTS_02_0.IFO).
libdvdnav: ifoOpenVTSI failed
[19:07:26] dvdnav prog play err: Bad VM state."

The process is repeated many times, before the final crash.
Thank you for your attention

Full log is always useful.

What software did you use to copy the disc and/or remove copy protection?

I didn't.
I thought to copy was permitteted because DVD is original; I just tried with handbrake.

Try ripping with makemkv first.

to be more precise: "Optical disk drive unrecognized"
It's not about the DVD but it's about the optical disk drive. (mmm)

Windows 10 hides removable drives (like optical drives) from applications that Microsoft has not blessed by default. So MakeMKV may be unable to "see" the optical drive, unless you've made an exception for it in Windows' "ransomware" rules.

I get it thank you; do you know where I could find steps in order to change Windows' ransomware rules? I've tried on web but it's hard to take the easy way out- many thanks

A search for "Windows ransomware exception" will come up with a lot of sites with detailed instructions, including gen-you-whine Microsoft sites.

Since this portion has moved to a MakeMKV issue, I think we should continue this on your MakeMKV forum topic.

no wait, I wrote in this forum because HandBrake was not able to scan a DVD (original). The flow of discussion led me to MakeMKV (and my trouble on MakeMKV is totally different) but my issue is related to HandBrake's scanning.

I report whole log in order to be more precise and a screenshot of the error.

thanks for your help

If makemkv can’t rip it your disk and/or drive may be bad.

Try posting in the makemkv forums as they deal with these problems more often.
