Re: SCANNING CRASH
Logs are saved to disk: https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/latest/hel ... y-log.html
Re: SCANNING CRASH
logs found many thanks
do you require whole text?
The crucial part should be:
"[19:06:47] dvdnav cur pgcn err: Bad VM state.
libdvdnav: DVD disk reports itself with Region mask 0x00400000. Regions: 1 2 3 4 5 6 8
libdvdread: Invalid IFO for title 2 (VTS_02_0.IFO).
libdvdnav: ifoOpenVTSI failed
[19:07:26] dvdnav prog play err: Bad VM state."
The process is repeated many times, before the final crash.
Thank you for your attention

Re: SCANNING CRASH
Full log is always useful.
What software did you use to copy the disc and/or remove copy protection?

Re: SCANNING CRASH
I didn't.
I thought to copy was permitteted because DVD is original; I just tried with handbrake.

Re: SCANNING CRASH
Try ripping with makemkv first.
Re: SCANNING CRASH
I'm trying right now- apparently no way
It doesn't recognise the DVD

Re: SCANNING CRASH
to be more precise: "Optical disk drive unrecognized"
It's not about the DVD but it's about the optical disk drive. (mmm)

please do you have any solution?

Re: SCANNING CRASH
Try a different drive if you can.
Re: SCANNING CRASH
no way
do u know different and proper drive to rip?

Re: SCANNING CRASH
Windows 10 hides removable drives (like optical drives) from applications that Microsoft has not blessed by default. So MakeMKV may be unable to "see" the optical drive, unless you've made an exception for it in Windows' "ransomware" rules.
Re: SCANNING CRASH
I get it thank you; do you know where I could find steps in order to change Windows' ransomware rules? I've tried on web but it's hard to take the easy way out- many thanks
Re: SCANNING CRASH
A search for "Windows ransomware exception" will come up with a lot of sites with detailed instructions, including gen-you-whine Microsoft sites.
Re: SCANNING CRASH
my "Windows ransomware exception" is not active. all the apps are allowed

Re: SCANNING CRASH
Since this portion has moved to a MakeMKV issue, I think we should continue this on your MakeMKV forum topic.
Re: SCANNING CRASH
no wait, I wrote in this forum because HandBrake was not able to scan a DVD (original). The flow of discussion led me to MakeMKV (and my trouble on MakeMKV is totally different) but my issue is related to HandBrake's scanning.Woodstock wrote: ↑Sun Oct 10, 2021 12:54 am Since this portion has moved to a MakeMKV issue, I think we should continue this on your MakeMKV forum topic.
I report whole log in order to be more precise and a screenshot of the error.
thanks for your help

Re: SCANNING CRASH
If makemkv can’t rip it your disk and/or drive may be bad.
Try posting in the makemkv forums as they deal with these problems more often.
