In video and audio, you have three things you can prioritize - Speed of compression, Quality of result, and Size of result. You can choose up to two.

Without the logs from the encode, we do not know which you chose, so it's very difficult to guess at what to change.

It will take about the same time regardless of the output size. It's all a matter of rate control settings. You could get it to 20MB (will look like garbage) in the same time.

Try setting the encoder preset to very slow, then up your RF to 28-30 and see if that does it.

Your video is already very compressed so to get it under 500mb you are going to have to sacrifice quality.

Yes, that’s normal.

If you want it faster you would have to lose even more quality.

Your quality will be mostly effected by RF.

Do you need your encodes to be fast?

Speed. Quality. Size. Pick 2.

So change the encoder preset to fast and try a higher RF to get the size you need.
