File naming

Post by tekxan »

Description of problem or question:
Hi folks, I'm trying to ensure the filename of the re encoded video remains the same as the original and not changed to lowercase letters or indeed have any other unnecessary numbers added. Example - E:\SVWT X044 session01.mkv then comes out as E:\\VIDEO\\Svwt x044 session01-1.m4v. not a prob as far as file extension just the main part of the file name.
One other issue in Preferences/when done/encode completed/send file to/browse. This indicates to me I have to browse to a location that is either on my hard drive already or to a new folder destination, yet when I browse accordingly the only option references filename not folder. Think I'm missing something or is this incorrectly programmed?
Supplied activity log as per forum rules, but do not really see the relevance of this as this is a setting issue rather than encoding problem.
Thank all in advance
Kind regards
Tekxan

You should be able to set the file name under preferences then output files.

Thanks Rollin for replying, appreciate it :) . Trouble is I'm running a lot of files through Handbrake (22) at a time and don't want to manually rename each one although I have done so before but it takes a long time. I queue all the files up and run a batch encode on them. keep getting a number appended to each one as well.
Under file collision behaviour drop down I chose prefix or postfix rather than Append Number, perhaps you know how to stop this from happening?
Cheers

You can check/uncheck options on the Output files page to make sure the file name is exactly as the original was, in case, spaces, et cetera. Just uncheck "Title case" to keep it from doing First Letter Capitalized.

If you want the ultimate in naming control, especially with batch jobs, you should learn the Command Line Interface.

Good afternoon Woodstock thanks for the heads up. unfortunately nothing I do in this section makes a difference. The output file has a number added to each file. Like I previously said, I queue all the files up and run a batch encode on them. keep getting a number appended to each one as well. this happens even in single file mode and sure I can rename each one but I need to run these files in batch mode.

I never liked working within DOS but am willing to investigate that route even though I shouldn't really have to these days.

Remove title from file format.
That will work but I still have to do one file at a time and write in the save as name of the file which isn't what I'm trying to do. I think this software cannot batch convert the files with the exact naming convention I want. Hmm back to the drawing board methinks Cheers

Re: File naming

:) Hi, if Automatically name output files is disabled I have to enter a file name in the save as dialogue on the main scree which is not helpful. Any way this may seem irrelevant now as for some reason I've managed to get this right and have 20 files queued up and processing now. The output file names no longer have a number appended to any of them. With {title} removed from file format in Output Files section it appears to be working correctly at the moment. I had previously removed {title} but it made no difference but now it has.

LOL yes me too, ,but it still doesn't explain why it's working, yet another quirky mystery of that which is Windows.
