processor usage

Post by fpefpe »

Hello -- This is a general question -- when I run handbrake, for the most part it runs close to 100% of the processer -- Is there a way to limit that? Thanks

Why would you want to? Running at 100% is not a problem.

HandBrake already runs at a lower system priority to keep the system responsive should you wish to do other tasks at the same time.

yes, I see that it runs at a lower priority, but for the most part it still consumes over 95% of the cpu --- should there be some sort of governor to limit the cpu usage to a certain percent of the cpu?

In windows you can change the cpu affinity in task manager.

good question ---

I am sure if it my computer, but I think that the cooling fan seems to get louder maybe spinning faster, so it the cpu running hotter?

would running on 1 core make a difference?

Yes, if your cpu is being used your fans will cool it down, that’s the way it’s supposed to work.

If this is too loud you could maybe install a better fan if possible.

Finally, yes, if you use less cpu your cooling should be less.
