Will handbrake use enhanced sharpening as in the new Topaz product

Post by loninappleton »

Hello,

After reading a longish thread at a video help forum on the subject of Topaz and it's advantages to enhance video
and also some tutorials from Topaz I wondered if Handbrake will incorporate what is, according to the experts, an
advanced version of sharpening the image. Whether AI is simply a buzzword has been debated. Apparently tools in the
video world exist to perform these functions.

I am simply a user of Handbrake. I have seen and used Lapsharp in the program but not to much good effect.

My query is: will Handbrake incorporate enhanced image sharpening in the Topaz style?

An example I saw of Topaz was used on a video made in the 1980's posted to Youtube did show
real improvement. The goal also would be to have the feature available for use on older and less
exotic video processors.

Handbrake is designed as a video encoder, not an editor.
I have tested Topaz, and it improves the appearance (but not accuracy) of upscaled video.
Based on experience, I would say "Probably not in the near future."
