Slow handbrake on ryzen 3900x

Post by JohnZero »

Handbrake fails to exploit the power of my Ryzen 3900X, it never goes beyond 48-50% of the CPU in Windows resources, while with RipBot264 software I see the CPU working at 98%.

HandBrake Nightly or 1.3.3 have a same problem

Windows 10 Enterprise

Help Me, Thanks! :(

Could you please post your HB logs, instructions can be found here:

Without logs, we can't help you. There are many things you can tell handbrake to do that will limit its CPU usage. For example, using x264 as your encoder will limit the number of cores used to less than the 12 you have, because more threads do not help.

I also have a 3900x. DVD material never uses more than 50% of my threads, whereas BluRay material does utilize nearly 100% usage with x264

I just started to run two handbrake instances at once if I have to transcode more than one file

thanks friend, in a few hours I will post the handbrake logs, however if I try the x264 encoding it uses almost 100% of the CPU and all 12 cores and 24 threads

Hi, yes I also tried to use two instances of handbrake to get the CPU to almost 100% usage with x265, and they worked, but sometimes I crashed, one of the two instances stopped working,
with x264 it also reaches almost 100% of the CPU to me, but as we know, with the same bitrate and the same size with x265 we have double the quality of x264. :(

In this line that I leave you, I put various logs, both in x264 and in x265, at ultrafast speed and at slow speed, both in 2 passes and in RF mode, so you can understand more things maybe.
I was thinking something else now, but maybe in slow mode and x265, the software does not use all the CPU because it is set so slow in analyzing the video that it cannot use all the CPU? Yet it is strange, he should exploit it all.
I look forward to a response from you who are more experienced than me, thank you.

It's not unexpected to see encoders not using 100% CPU, especially on >8 core machines and CPU usage can vary greatly for a number of reasons, including settings and even memory bandwidth. CPU scaling does tend to improve with higher resolutions in the encode but you are more likley to run into other hardware limitations or limitations in other features such as filters for example.

Hi friends, i have a new problem.
This movie in x265 has no problems and ends the encoding, but in x264 it fails and I can't understand why, it stops suddenly, deciding the minute of the interruption.

Try disabling process isolation.
