x265 Constant Quality

Post by kturcotte »

When using "Constant Quality" Handbrake gives suggestions for x264 codec, but not x265. What is recommended for 480, 720, 1080, & 4k when using x265?

The starting points are about the same, adjusted for your own personal preference.

What would be recommended for 4k then?

Try 5 points higher than for x264, then work down slowly until you are satisfied with the quality.
With some source, 28 crf x265 is roughly equivalent of 23 crf x264.

High 20s as a starting point, adjust to personal preferences.
