I have several files (one example shown below) that play fine in VLC but when I try to compress it using Handbrake with the software X265 encoder it produces an output containing only audio and no video. I searched the forums on this topic and found someone who suggested I needed the "-map 0:v" and "-map 0:a" switches. I tried adding that into the Advanced Options window although I'm not sure if I did that properly. In any case it did the same thing. No video in the output file. Any ideas? Thanks ~Paul

Re: Handbrake encodes the audio but not the video
Those are ffmpeg options, not Handbrake or encoder options.
What we need is the HB encoding log, as mentioned subtly in bold red underlined text on a pink background at the top of the page.

Re: Handbrake encodes the audio but not the video
The log from the encode that produced no video, not the scan of the file.
Re: Handbrake encodes the audio but not the video
The nightly build version you have has some issues that were fixed more recently. This topic was about the same thing; nightly builds after August 5th should incorporate the fix.
Re: Handbrake encodes the audio but not the video
Thanks Woodstock. I should have been suspicious of the nightly build but I had forgotten that I had been using it. I think there was some feature of the nightlies I wanted. Are the nightlies still available? When I click on nightly downloads it takes me to a page talking about the snapshots which are temporarily unavailable. I loaded the 1.3.3 windows portable release for now, but it goes much slower since it seems to do only on job at a time giving me only around 35% cpu utilization. With the nightly I was doing 4 or more jobs at once giving me 95% cpu utilization. Is there another place I can get the most recent nighly?
Re: Handbrake encodes the audio but not the video
There have been some issues with the server for the nightlies from what I read over on github, "to be resolved shortly". The developers would have more information on that than me.
Re: Handbrake encodes the audio but not the video
Your video appears to be a TV broadcast recording. These are filled with transport stream errors, and rewrapping to .mkv does nothing to correct them. Whether they decode correctly in Handbrake or your NLE is a crapshoot.
