One of three VOB file will not convert to MP4

Posted: Sat Apr 18, 2020 8:05 pm
by chaucer
Description of problem or question:

When I select the VOB files, all 3 of them show up in the preview pane, but when conversion to mp4 is complete, only 2 of the 3 are converted.
There is an a note at the bottom that says, queue finished with 2 errors or cancelation

I can play the VOB file that does not convert and it plays fine with a VOB player

Thank you

Don’t open the vobs individually, open the root folder.

I've tried that and only 1 of the 3 convert.

Yes, but the one that converts has problems... only 7310 frames are readable out of 8580 expected.

What did you rip the folders with? Did it have any errors when reading the original disk? Did it remove the encryption during the copy?

Hi,

It is a DVD from a camcorder. There are 4 VOB files. I can play them each in their entirely as VOB files on my laptop. But when I try to convert them to MP4, that is when I encounter the issues.

Try copying the whole disk to a directory on your hard drive. If that completes without error, we can radically reduce the change it is disk read errors.

The log indicates that there is at least a "bump" in the road to reading the files, and handbrake isn't like a DVD player that is programmed to ignore read errors.

Hi,

They all copies fine except the one they will not convert.

The error says" Can't read the source file on disk"

Why won't it read that one file?

Anything I can do to fix?

Thank you for the help.

Can you open the root folder and post the log, thanks.

Sorry, I'm not sure how to do that.

I'm copying the file to my desktop and get the error. Not sure where to find the log.

Or do you mean when just doing that file using handbrake?

You have the right question - the answer can be a number of things. First thing to try is simply cleaning the disk. This was posted over on the MakeMKV forum, in a topic about common causes of read errors:
Proper disc cleaning:

Center to edge, never circular.

How to clean CD/DVD/Blu-ray disks
Since you're dealing with a camera DVD, there shouldn't be any copy protection to get in the way. But disk errors are a universal pain in the rear.
