Softsubs on MP4?

Post by Speeny »

I've ripped some Blu-rays of mine, and using Handbrake to compress them down.

Am I able to use softsub on MP4 so that I can turn them on and off & be recognised at least on VLC?

Thanks in advance.

Depends on the subtitles. Text-based subtitles, for the most part, yes. DVD graphic subtitles will work with VLC (it's not part of the MP4 standard). Bluray graphic subtitles, no.

Got things working the way I want using MKVToolNix. Thanks anyway.

OK, switching to MKV files like that removes the MP4 format restrictions.
