1.3.0 deletes presets / won't save audio presets

Post by andrewk89 »

Description of problem or question:
Upgraded from 1.2.2 to 1.3.0 and thought everything was fine. Reboted my computer. Launched HB again - custom presets are missing.

Re-created one of the custom presets, but it won't save audio. I re-compiled 1.3.0 .dll with he-aac flag. That's what I'm trying to save in the preset. x.265 video with HE-AAC audio. HB saves the video settings, but not the audio. Audio defaults to AAC stereo 160 kbps (even though I specified HE-AAC before saving the preset.

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):
Launch 1.3.0. Create a preset. Specify HE-AAC autio.

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):
1.3.0

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):
Win 10 1909

Did you use the behavioural screen (via the audio tab) to setup the audio tracks?

If you used the "add preset" then configured audio from there, there is a known bug. (Fixed in the nighties and upcoming 1.3.1)

Yes. OK, and thanks.

I couldn't reproduce deleted presets. I copied one of the presets.json backups from earlier this year. (I only use 2 presets, but there are a lot of preset backups. Does HB make a backup at every version upgrade?). Re-launched 1.3.0 and they were there (with the correct audio settings, too.) Exited HB and repeated. Still there. If there's a preset version upgrade at every HB upgrade, can corruption creep in that manifests in this manner?

Any time the an error, read-failure or upgrade occurs, a backup is made.

We don't guarantee presets carry between versions, but in theory it should mostly work. That said, even with a successful import, a given setting and/or preset as a whole might behave quite differently between versions so it's always worth checking your still getting expected results.

For example, x265 drastically changed their defaults with the latest version, which for a lot of folks using it, has meant significant increase in filesizes and requires preset changes to compensate.
