Display aspect ratio changed to 1.728 from 16:9

Post by DBenz »

I simply want to deinterlace my SD footage of 16:9 and 4:3 ration720x576. I try handbrake. Why does my display aspect ratio get shown as 1.728 in MediaInfo on the resulting file when prior to deinterlace it was 16:9 and 720x576, it becomes 700x576 1.728 ratio after default settings of profile 1080p30 and when I choose 576p25 as I realise its set to upscaling my SD video to 1080 and I didnt want to do that, it still is 700x576 25fps. I dont want to loose 20 pixels out of my 720, that will make my SD worse for viewing. I am also wondering why my mistake of using default 1080p didnt see a 1080high resolution video result ! If I divide 720 by 576 I get 1.25 not 1.728 ! and 700/576 is 1.215 so what is 1.728 in MediaInfo > tree data display, its not shown as 16:9 anymore and I have to choose display ratio of what it is in my DVD authoring prog TMPGencDVDauthoringWorks so having this oddity 1.728 is not there to choose from

I simply opened an SD 16:9 ratio mpg and used default settings to encode it and deinterlace it using decomb and quality is 22

Handbrake detected letter box filler, and cropped it from the video. If you want the output file's aspect ratio to be exactly 1.7777777777, you can disable auto cropping and set the crop values to all zeros.

Also, PAL DVD Widescreen anamorphic is not exactly 16:9 (1.777)
It is closer to 1.82.
