Looking to upgrade my graphics card, need recommendations.

Post by DamianGerard » Sat Aug 10, 2019 7:23 am

Hey guys, I need help in looking for a graphic card but I’m not sure what to get. Btw I need it for gaming so it has to be able to run “intensive” games such as GTA 5 on very high graphics.

My current PC specs are as follows: I7-4770 16 GB DDR3 RAM GTX 760 2GB And I’m playing on 1920x1080.

I’ve had this set up for over 5 years now. The 2GB video memory on my current GTX760 is bleh. It feels like it is overheating at times too.

So I’m looking for a 4gb video memory at least. Currently considering the GTX960 4GB but heard many saying that the upgrade is not worth.

So what graphic cards would y’all recommend for my setup. “Ignoring” budget for now, which are the high quality graphics I should get at affordable prices?

In short I just wanna run GTA5 on very high without any FPS/temperature issues.

Maybe try a forum like Neowin if you want good hardware recommendations for games.

This forum is for HandBrake support.

Your question has relevance as Handbrake supports Nvidia acceleration.
Consider the GTX 1660.
The following is for Gaming and not Handbrake rendering.
Upgrading to 960 from 760 yields only 2%.
Upgrading over 4GB RAM yields no benefits with current technology.
Depending on your budget, a HUGE increase for GAMING speed would be the GTX 1660.
1650 and below yield little benefit but will significantly lighten your wallet.
The Data: The 960 renders 121 Frames per second versus 273 Frames per second for the 1660.
It isn't cheap, but possibly the BIGGEST bang for the Buck.
General computing will yield little benefit.
The faster cards are for Gaming.
I did answer because Handbrake supports Nvidia acceleration.
Go to GPU.userbenchmarks.com to see the data.
In your browser simply put in "GTX 960 vs 1660" then hit enter. Search results will show many options. Look for gpu.userbenchmarks.com
Upgrading from your 960 to a 1660 will yield SIGNIFICANT performance of 150%.
Handbrake supports Nvidia Acceleration, but no data is available to provide performance increase.

I suggest you defer to the response above yours and let it go. Gaming acceleration and GPU encoding have no relationship under the sun, except they often exist on the same card. The rest is just nonsense.
