Hi
Would like to use HandBrake to make a 4K test video?
After much checking decided to use "First 8K Video from Space" https://images.nasa.gov/details-First-8 ... Space.html because it is 8K and MP4 with low compression and a lot of small detail. (compared to YT chan First 8K Video from Space - Ultra HD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7k2uKb9vCOI which is only MKV and more compressed)
Also the camera used was Helium 8K camera by RED https://www.nasa.gov/8k-science with specs WEAPON HELIUM 8K S35 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS http://docs.red.com.s3.amazonaws.com/95 ... HELIUM.htm
Googled and found it is "...DNxHR 4:2:2 12-Bit"
Would like to reduce the resolution to 4K with no perceived quality decrease.
As a beginner would appreciate suggestions!
Thanks
Ken

Re: Recommend Settings for 4K MP4 Test Video?
Forgot to mention I Googled using keywords handbrake to reduce "video resolution" and found "How to Resize a Video or Change Resolution" by Aseem Kishore in 2014. https://www.online-tech-tips.com/comput ... e-a-video/
Did another using last year but did not find any to change the resolution.

Pick the built in 4K preset suitable for your playback environment.
If you're unhappy or confused about the result in any way, post again with your encoding log.

Re: Recommend Settings for 4K MP4 Test Video?
mduell,
Thanks for the tip!
Read the docs for 4K "Recommended settings for x264 and x265 encoders: RF 22-28 for 2160p 4K Ultra High Definition" https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/1.2.0/work ... ality.html
Question: What RF setting do you use for 4K?

mduell,
"Pick the built in 4K preset suitable for your playback environment." Checked all the presets did Not find a 4K preset for Android.
Want to choose a 4K preset that will work with all (or most) 4K TVs.
Appreciate your suggestion!
Thanks

I doubt there is one that works for most TVs. You'll have to research your specific TV or STB's capabilities.
Re: Recommend Settings for 4K MP4 Test Video?
mduell,
Am using HandBrake-1.2.2-x86_64-Win_GUI.zip https://handbrake.fr/rotation.php?file= ... in_GUI.zip
My 1st try chose Chromecast 4K with x265 and crashed the system!
For 2nd try would like to use 4K with x264 but did not find a preset for this?
Can you tell me how to manually do this.
Thanks!
Ken

Pick x264 from the encoder dropdown on the video tab.
