Auto shrink size and replace files and batch

Post by MikePer »

Hello,
I didn't know where to ask this question :)

What is the best way to automatically convert video files to a smaller size?
I have many different folders with many different video files, (and different files type)

How to Automatically convert all the video files to a smaller size?
Can Batch Scan overwrite the source files?
There is any script to automate Handbrake to do it?
So it will go into each folder and convert the video file and then DELETE the older big file and REPLACE it with the new small size video file?
Thanks a lot!!

I have many different folders with many files and subfolders inside.
Each folder can have files like text file and photos.
There is a way to convert all the video files inside the folders?
And then overwrite the source (Old) video files?
So the big file will be deleted, and at the same location, it will be a new smaller size video file.

I am using:
Windows 10 / Handbrake 1.2.2

Big Thanks!!!

You could script the CLI to do this.

https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/1.2.0/cli/cli-options.html

Handbrake itself is not going to delete your source video, because it really cannot tell the encode was "correct and successful". So that is something you would have to put in an external script.

If you check through the Command Line Interface section of the forum, there are some scripts that will apply a FIXED set of arguments to the contents of a "drop" directory.

Thanks!
If I want to pay someone to do it (Fiverr)
What terms should I use?
I don't have any knowledge about CLI scripts or anything like that.
Where can I find someone to create a solution for it?
Thanks.

We don't allow folks to solicit paid support on this forum. If something goes wrong, or you get scammed, it's bad for everyone.

If using the queue doesn't meet your needs (https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/1.2.0/advanced/queue.html) and your not willing to learn, or simply not interested then you might be better off looking for other software that makes this easier.

Ultimately, no matter what you do, manual checking of the encoded output (no matter what software you use), is highly recommended before deleting the source. Even a "successful" encode, could be bad.
It wouldn't be the first time we've had someone go a bit postal after learning this the hard way. We've seen folks make this mistake on queues that were over week long.

Awesome!

Thank you very much for the tips :)

Can someone tell me what do I need to know for creating this myself?
I want to look for guides and tutorials.
What terms should I search for?
SLI? Macro? Command Line?

Again, Thanks!!!
