Ripping dvd on windows much too slow

Post by hiacedrifter » Sun Dec 02, 2018 1:02 pm

Description of problem or question:

I've returned to handbrake after a long absence. I have updated version of handbrake and VLC installed.

In the past (a year or so ago) ... I used to insert a dvd into my dvd drive, attached to my windows 10 laptop. Open handbrake, scan the dvd, then rip it.

Today I am trying to do the same, but the disc is taking an hour or two to rip ... so long I gave up. I seem to remember this happened before and I had to add a file onto my computer that was referenced whilst the disc was copied.

The preview screens also show just green/black blocks

Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Ripping dvd on windows much too slow

That file (libdvdcss) hasn't been supported in a long time. It more often than not causes issues. Most people use something like MakeMKV to take the DVD into a MKV file, then use HandBrake to compress and transocde it into something smaller.

Great thanks, yes that was the file! Ok, I'll use MakeMKV instead.
