"Save AS" window acting like it's trying to open a file...

Description of problem or question:
Ok. I'm not a new user. I've used handbrake for years and recently updated. I add my file to compress, select my options, click browse to set the output file location. While the window shows "Save As" when I type in my file name and click save I get presented with "Cannot find the file specified" as though I was using an "Open" window. If I manually type in my path to the save as box I'm presented with a permissions error as though I don't have access to the path. I've doublechecked I do by creating a new doc in that location.

Directory listings require that the directory be opened... So a permissions error will occur if the directory has access restrictions.

Even though it's a "save as" selector, it still has to respect those permissions; it just doesn't read the way a lot of people expect.

The field order (file name before directory selection) is the standard arrangement for these controls on some systems. The opposite would probably be more intuitive in some situations, but we decided the extra effort combined with breaking from the standard system behavior would likely be a worse recipe.

For anyone else who is experiencing this issue, I've figured out what the issue was. Oooooo boy it's a doozy.

Hit your windows key and type in "Windows Defender Security Center". Hit Enter. In the Security Center Open "Virus and Threat Protection". Click "Randsomwear Protection". Now turn it off.

I ran across this solution in the makemkv forums. Apparently the new Randsomwear Protection function blocks common functions such as reading media from CD/DVD/Bluray in anything other than a media player. I was trying to use DVDFab to back up some media and the program would not see any inserted DVD or Bluray. After fighting with that for a hour I tried downloading MakeMKV. That program reported it could not find an optical drive. After searching their forums for a few hours I found the above solution. When I made the above modification not only did both DVDFab and MakeMKV start working normally, but Handbrake did as well.

Now you can experiment with allowing applications via the filter, but I've read you need to allow every .exe in the programs folder. This may not be a problem for handbrake, but DVDFab and MakeMKV have multiple .exe files that are used in concert.

I hope this helps someone . This was a complete PITA.
