New to Handbrake - Reducing File Size

Post by srader »

I have looked at every tutorial that I can find on reducing a file size. The current file size I have is 62 MB and I need to get it down to 50 MB. It is a MPV4 file. I've tried many different ways according to online guides and the file always ends up being larger instead of smaller.

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):

1.1.2:

Windows 10 Creators Update):

HandBrake 1.1.2 (2018090500) - 64bit
OS: Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.17134.0 - 64bit
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz
Ram: 8060 MB,
GPU Information:
NVIDIA GeForce 940MX - 21.21.13.7654
Intel(R) HD Graphics 620 - 24.20.100.6194
Screen: 1920x1080
Temp Dir: C:\Users\Scott\AppData\Local\Temp\
Install Dir: C:\Program Files\HandBrake
Data Dir: C:\Users\Scott\AppData\Roaming\HandBrake

It appears your source video is already very heavily compressed. Here are a few ways to shave off just a bit more:

1) Lower the quality, e.g. try RF 24 or 26, etc. See https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/1.1.0/work ... ality.html

2) Lower the resolution. Try one of the 720p presets. See https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/1.1.0/work ... reset.html

3) Use 2-pass average bit rate mode to constrain your video's file size. Requires an online bit rate calculator to determine the correct value for creating the overall size you want. Don't forget to take the size of the audio into account.
