Description of problem or question: I've been attempting to convert hi res .avi file sourced from a security camera NVR. The source file is an HEVC avi. These files are not stable when played with Windows MediaPlayer on Windows 7 x86. I"ve been playing the files with VLC which is fairly stable. but still giving me some problems.
I tried this guide to convert the files to a H.264 format https://gopro.com/help/articles/how_to/ ... -handbrake. First attempt crashed Handbrake. All other attempts produce a 1kb or 5kb file that will not play in any media player.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or comments
Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):
HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0): 1.0.7
Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update): Windows 7 Pro 32bit.

Re: Fail to convert HEVC .avi file to H.264
What happens when you use the current version of handbrake, 1.1.1 ?
Re: Fail to convert HEVC .avi file to H.264
Try a nightly build too if 1.1.1 does not work.

Looks like the OS is 32 bit so they are stuck on the older version right?
You could try remuxing your file to mkv first as avi is not the best.

Re: Fail to convert HEVC .avi file to H.264
In all likely hood 1.1 won't fix this. A lot of these cheap security camera systems produce invalid, or proprietary h264 streams that nothing else can read. ffmpeg (in the nightly builds), might be more tolerant of the crap input, but 1.1 uses the same decoder as 1.0 so chances are it won't help.
Being on a 32bit OS which we no longer support, doesn't leave you much in the way of options I'm afraid. You could try remuxing but it looks more like a H.264 stream issue.

Re: Fail to convert HEVC .avi file to H.264
Hi all,
Sorry It took me a few days to get back to this.
The computer I"m using at work is x86 and won't run a handbrake version higher than 1.0.7
My computer at home is x64 win 7 pro and was successful in converting one of the smaller test files i took home. I will have to see if there is a spare x64 computer at work i can use.
By the way my home computer is running handbrake version 0.10.2.7286
Here's the log file from the successful conversion on my home pc : https://pastebin.com/k3r0sLc3
I tried a whole bunch of other tools to convert the file on Friday while I was at work.
One of them was a gui for ffmpeg... Sorry I can't remember what it was called.
All the tools I tried failed.

Re: Fail to convert HEVC .avi file to H.264
no luck with conversion or cutting of the file with any version of handbrake on my work x86 system.
However...
This solution worked fine.
