Description of problem or question:
I've been using the same user presets in Handbrake for a long time to reduce 1080p captures to 720p, always with great results.
But now I've one capture where I have 2 sequences of a few seconds (2 or 3) that are scrambled, the rest of the movie is ok.
Here are 2 samples of the 2 sequences and the encoding settings https://imgur.com/a/vPjhTWB.
As you can see the first sample is less scrambled than the second and the text in the first image seems not affected.
Following the link you can also see the settings I've used.
As I said before, I've done numerous encodings before without problems, this has been the only one causing problems.
Just to be clear, the original does not have the scrambled sequences.
HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):
1.0.7 (20170400900)
Operating system and version:
Windows 10 Home 64-bit (version 1803)

Do you have any suggestions on what I need to change in my encoding settings to resolve the problem ?
Thanks in advance,
Hagarken

Upgrade to the latest, 1.0.7 is not supported and there have been literally hundreds of fixes in the last year of development.Code: Select all

Re: Need help: H.264 encoding results in a few scrambled sequences.
Lots of possible causes.
Is the source a Bluray rip, or a video capture? Have you verified that the source doesn't have matching distortions when played (the errors look like insufficient video bit rate for the motion in the shot) ?
If your source isn't interlaced (most BD sources are NOT), you should set decomb/deinterlace to OFF; handbrake's filter detected combing, which can be the result of interlacing, but also can be part of the video itself when the source is progressive. This can cause some "interesting" effects in the output.

Re: Need help: H.264 encoding results in a few scrambled sequences.
The source is a video capture,
I tried setting decomb/deinterlace to OFF, the result was the same.
I'll try to upgrade to the latest version tomorrow. I'm a bit hesitant, because when i upgraded to 1.0.7, I had to recreate my user presets (I can't remember what version I had before, but the presets where not compatible), I prefer not to do that again.

Re: Need help: H.264 encoding results in a few scrambled sequences.
Fair enough, we prefer not to support issues that may already be resolved.
Re: Need help: H.264 encoding results in a few scrambled sequences.
Shouldn’t have to recreate presets between 1.0.x and 1.1.x, so no worries there.
Re: Need help: H.264 encoding results in a few scrambled sequences.
Using version 1.1.0 solved the problem.
Thanks again and sorry for the false alarm.

Great, no worries. Glad to hear you’re up and running again.
