Intermittently choppy mkv to H.265 (QSV)

Hey everyone. I'm attempting to convert my blu-ray collection to digital so I can build a plex server. I'm converting the blu ray files to mkv with makemkv and then compressing the files with handbrake. I'm using a modified HD1080p30surround preset where I change the codec to H.265 (QSV) and the container to mkv. For the most part, the conversion is successful. However, occaisonally I will run into the problem where the original mkv file is fine, but when I compress it using handbrake something happens. Every 1 or 2 seconds the screen becomes very pixelated, but the audio does not seem to be affected. I've tried changing the codec to H.264 and the container to an mp4, and neither fixes the problem. I've looked through a bunch of threads trying to figure it out myself without asking for help, but here I am.




Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable): I can attempt to upload my source mkv file, but it's over the file size limit on most cloud storage drives

Firstly, please update to HandBrake 1.1.0, and since you’re using QSV please make sure you have the latest Graphics drivers from Intel.

I had similar issue with QSV 264 - it was rare but a couple of pure MKV rips I had such as The Da Vinci Code.
In my case I disabled QSV decoding but left 264 QSV encoding enabled. I took the performance hit
but its not as bad no QSV at all. Not sure if that will help with 265.. see if that helps with 264
I am using V1.0.7.
