Encoding old DVD - problem!

Post by xviz »

Hello, my first post here.

Trying to back up an old DVD gives bad result. Playing the DVD directly using VLC is fine, preview of video through Handbrake show same result as encoding. Please check the result here:

Handbrake log (including version, OS etc):

Is this down to my (old) CD/DVD/BD player? From the log it seems like that might be the case.
I would be thankful for any steps to remedy the situation.

HandBrake isn't a DVD ripper and your encountering CSS copy protection there.

Third party tools (such as MakeMKV) are required to remove copy protection before HandBrake will encode correctly.
