Cpu overheating in core i7 7th gen

When i have been trans coding a movie i have noticed that my cup has been over heating and shutting down due to the heat. Is there anything in the settings of Handbrake that can be changed to lessen the number of cores so this does not happen.

You really should handle your hardware cooling issue instead of searching for a software solution.

I’m not sure that matters, but perhaps contact ASUS and ask them why the machine is failing under load.

The "asus ROG Gaming Laptop" is designed for superior GRAPHICS processor specs, not for running at 100% CPU for long periods of time. There are very few laptops that have both fast CPUs and enough cooling to support them for more than a few seconds at full speed. Especially those designed to be thin... no room for chips AND heat sinks AND fans.

You might want to consider using the Quick Sync Video capabilities of the processor. Your encodes won't be as "efficient" as those done by x264, but the CPU load will be considerably less. Your logs will show whether or not the video drivers supplied with the machine enable the QSV hardware.
