Post by 55trucker »

Description of problem or question:
Hello:

I just dl'ed the newest version 1.1.0 to upgrade my older 32 bit version for my win7 op/sys, when I attempt to boot the program I am greeted with an error message stating the version installed is not compatible with my op/sys. I could find only one version to dl, it is identified as being both a x86 & an x64 bit exe.

I cannot supply an activity log as cannot get the program to open to supply the activity log.

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):

There is no 32-bit version of handbrake 1.1.x.

If your system cannot do 64-bit, you will have to stick with 1.0.x, and understand that it is not supported anymore.

Even in the 1.0.x days it wasn't supported, even if it existed.

I was/am using 1.0.7 32bit, (previous version) dl'ed the new 1.1.0 & it installs but it is not for 32bit? even tho the description of the exe is titled as x86.

I wanted the upgraded x264 core writing library (155) the old version was/is (148)

x86 = 32bit
x86_64 = 64bit

I'm afraid there is no way to upgrade x264 in your existing install either.

yeah,

I found that out, just out of curiosity sake, why not write the program so the x264 writing library can be updated without installing a entire newer fresh program version?.......instead of creating the hb.dll that is in Handbrake

Several reasons.

1. HandBrake doesn't use x264.exe command line. It uses the API so any API between versions (such as those that happened recently) mean you can't just drop in a newer dll and have it "just work". it requires updates.
2. HandBrake uses specific versions of libraries at a given point in time. This known quantity allows us to offer stable builds that are not difficult to support. You don't have a million users all potentially running different versions of the code.

Well, thx for that info,

I can't see myself going out & purchasing a 64bit op/sys anywhere in the near future.

If your hardware can do 64-bit but your version of Windows can't. 64-bit Linux is still very much an option.

According to this you may be able to get 64-bit install media from Microsoft (unless you somehow got a computer with a "starter" edition of Windows): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions

No idea how you'd do it, but surely help may be available elsewhere on the internet.

Is new version only 64 bit? Why didn't you release a 32 bit version?

Yes, it's only 64bit.

- Lack of memory on 32bit systems and increasing system requirements exacerbating the problem of our of memory errors.
- It takes time and effort to maintain the 32bit builds. We do this in our free time. 32bit builds haven't been maintained for some time
- Greatly decreased market share.
- If your running 32bit, there is no cost to move to 64bit OS. If your hardware doesn't support that, then your below the minimum system requirements for HandBrake anyway.

To name a few.

If I want install a 64bit op/sys I've got to purchase that system, Microsoft doesn't give them away for free.
Hardware's not an issue, the motherboard supports 64bit, but I've been using this 32bit version of 7SP1 for 7 years now.

I don't require a system that puts so much demand on the ram that 3.5 gig is not enough memory.

Version 1.0.7 is 32bit, it's only 1 year old. it was released April last year.

https://superuser.com/questions/979528/ ... it-windows Seems to suggest otherwise.

Just letting you know there is a potential option.

Otherwise, 1.0.7 will continue to run. It's just not supported anymore.

Not so,
that article is with regard to the application of the product key, not the op/sys itself.
My install disc is a 32bit install disc, (as supplied by the local Microsoft authorized outlet that built my mid-tower case & system.

If I want the 64bit version I have to purchase it.
